This book published last year maybe of interest to some here. It says it has a profile of every casualty and the circumstances of their death in Ireland from 1916 to 1921. It is not cheap, I saw it retailing for €70, but seems really comprehensive.

The casualties figures presented are:

•The 1916 Rebellion = 504 casualties

  • Civilians = 276
  • British Army = 127
  • Irish Rebels = 84
  • Police = 17

•1917 to 1921 = 2,346 casualties

  • Civilians = 919
  • Police = 523
  • IRA = 491
  • British Army = 413

Browsing the book, I could see a lot Great War veterans amongst the Civilians.

I thought that the authors had produced a really good guide to the dead.

I had an amount of correspondence with them before publication as there is a fair amount of overlap i with my work

I thought you might be involved somehow. I saw you were referenced in Paul O’Briens book ‘Havoc’ too. You should consider writing a book yourself 😁

Yes it looks a very good book, I will be buying it soon.

The advantage of  doing all my stuff on the web is that I can update instantly it whenever something new comes my way. With a book that is impossible !

Same here Corisande, books and war memorials become out of date very quickly. Updating database online is immediate and straightaway up to date.

Hello Corisande,

Is your online work accessible to the public?

Also, the book referenced in the OP, The Dead of the Irish Revolution, is about $3.93 on Amazon.com as of this instant.

I picked up a copy myself. Arrived today and it is an oversized book. Larger than the typical 6x9.

Surprising number of accidental discharges with rifle and revolvers.
