National Service records

Hi can anyone help me with where I would find "National Service Records" for an individual from 1939 onwards.  I know this is a WW1 forum but I am struggling to know how to find the information and I have always found this Forum so helpful.  I have tried "Ancestry" but could find nothing. An elderly relative believes her Dad was conscripted as she thinks he had a pension from the military.  She thinks he may have left due to ill health - many of the family had "lung" issues and she would really like to find out more.  His name was John Roberts - sometimes known as Jack.  He was born on the 19th June 1906 in Tarporley Cheshire.  His wife's name was Fanny Lewis.  He moved to Macclesfield at some point in his life so may have been there at the time.  If someone could point me in the right direction as she is his only surviving relative and she has no details at all.  Many Thanks.
