3. Born circa 1885 from CWGC age of 30. No family on CWGC

4. SDGW gives born Bath, Somerset

If we take the information available from those official sources at their face value and discounting the Jones, then we are looking for the birth of a Francis Henry between the 1st October 1884, (i.e. his next birthday would have fallen in the day after he died), to the 30th September 1885.

Looking at the Bath Civil Registration District for the period from Q1 1884 to Q4 1886 there are only three matches – all in Q4 1884.

1) Francis Henry Barrow, mothers’ maiden name Holbrook. The death of a Francis Henry Barrow, born November 1884, was recorded in the Bath District in Q1 1977.

2) Francis Henry Gerrett, mothers’ maiden name Burge. No obvious death recorded in England & Wales. In the 1891 Census of England & Wales there is a 1 year old Francis H. Gerrett recorded living at 12 Canden Courtyard(?), Prospect Place, Walcot, Bath. This was the household of his parents – Richard S, (or J?), aged 43, a Masons Labourer, born Frome, Somerset, and Eliza M., aged 44, born Bath. The couple have six other children living with them.
The marriage of a Richard Stephen Gerrett to an Eliza Maria Burge was registered in the Bath District in Q4 1872.
On the 1901 Census of England & Wales  the family turn up recorded living at 8 Queenswood Avenue, Bath, and with the surname shown as “Gerret”.  As well as Richard S., (53, Builders Labourer), and Eliza M., (54), there are three of their children. These included the 16 year old Francis H., a Plumbers Labourer. The death of an Eliza Gerrett, aged 64, was recorded in the Bath District in Q4 1910. No obvious match for Francis on the 1911 Census of England. Widower father Richard Stephen Gerrett, aged 63 and a Masons Labourer, was recorded living by himself at 10 Morford Street, Bath. His marriage had produced 13 children, of which 9 were then still alive. The death of a Richard S. Gerrett, aged 69, (various sources have transcribed as 89), in the Bath District, Q4 1918.
A Francis Gerrett, aged 22 and a plumber landed at Quebec in May 1907 aboard the Kensington, an emigrant bound for Toronto. On the 18th November 1908 he reached Niagra Falls, aged 24 and with his occupation listed as Student. He was born Bath, England. On entering the US he was bound for Wisconsin. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:Q23H-FL7H

Looks like a possible baptism of a daughter in West Virgina in 1926. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:HV2C-X6PZ

And an appearance on the 1930 US Census living in Miami. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:X4YT-Q29

3) Francis Henry Roper, mothers’ maiden name Gregory. The death of a 67 year old Francis H. Roper was recorded in the Bath District in Q1 1952.

So barring co-incidence  I think that line of enquiry can be closed off and probably indicates that the information as to age and area of birth needs to be taken with a very large pinch of salt.:)

Cheers,
Peter

Peter yes agree, possibly an alias, however the strong connection to Loftus in west yorkshire is intriguing especially his will to Ethel Garner,  if only we knew
