Unaccustomed to acquiring German bayonets a lucky bid at a recent auction meant that I am now the new custodian of this piece. My question is , is the green paint to scabbard and black to pommel and crosspiece/guard original/correct ?. And finally is the frog correct also ?.

your expert comments and thoughts are most welcome.

kind regards and thanks

Richard

The frog is origin there, the scabbard paint could be period, unfortunally it looks like oiled? or glossy? the black paint could be postwar done on handle, some countries used S98/05nAS postwar too. I assume the paint on scabbard is field done, not from fabric, and the bayonet is 1915 production by Demag.

The gloss finish looks like fairly recently applied varnish.

Richard,

Yes, should have spotted that.  Obvious from the first image shown untreated.

A nice example, well done.

Mike.

Bayonets by this maker are not exactly rare but nor are they exactly common! So, a nice find.
