Duffer Posted 23 January , 2022 Share Posted 23 January , 2022 Hi, Help required My grandfather Harry (born 18Jun1897), a charge-hand at his fathers farm at the time of WW1, was conscripted / signed up into the AVC on the 21 Auguts 1916 in Hartley Witney, Hampshire. I understand that his medical was conducted at Winchester and his military training started at Woolwich as a 'horse keeper'. I understood from my late father that he served in Selonica, Alexandria, Egypt and crossed the Sinai desert and was in Jerusalem 25 Dec 1917 (see attachments). On the 16 Oct 1919 he was demob'd from the RAVC and returned as a foreman to his father's farm in Yateley, Hampshire, and spent his £25 gratuity on starting a poultry business and renting fields nearby. I have no idea what part of the RAVC he was in and would dearly like to fill in some of the military gaps. I have not heard of any stories of being a POW or being wounded so I don't know if he was near the front line at any time or what campaigns he may have been involved in. I attached a couple of photos Many thanks Colin

Duffer Posted 23 January , 2022 Author Share Posted 23 January , 2022 (edited) Not sure I fully understood your first line ...you think 22nd should read the 2/2nd an instead of the 11th it was the 60th Division? ...just trying to make sure I understood. I used this website ...https://www.longlongtrail.co.uk/army/regiments-and-corps/army-veterinary-corps-in-the-first-world-war/ Cheers Colin Edited 23 January , 2022 by Duffer
