Hi all.

I've got a ww1 pair to a Zeebrugge man but can anybody hazard a guess to what he might have got In the way of ww2 medals?

His service sheet says:

Victory I (ABV NO.6) 31/8/39
Excellent 10/12/39
Wolfe 3/1/40

What does the ABV bit indicated?

Cheers

Any clues on medal entitlement?

Based on his records above, I'd say War and Defence Medals only. Now, you don't say when he was discharged?

Atlamtic Star for sevice in the armed merchant cruiser HMS WOLFE is possible -  https://www.naval-history.net/xGM-Chrono-28Depot-HMS_Wolfe.htm

The Atlantic Star was awarded for six months service afloat in the Atlantic or in Home Waters within the period from 3 September 1939 to 8 May 1945.

Quite right. Perhaps if we could have his name we could look his record up?

Wouldn’t he have had to first qualify for the 1939-45 Star? As far as I understand it, the Atlantic Star could not be awarded on a stand alone basis.

Alongside the 3 ships listed it says:

P.O. (6 yrs) pens

Then lower down it says:

C.P.o. Ty 7.9.47  S161 Victory I

Released in Class A  AIS Gp3

18.9.45 S161R Fortitude

He was paid a war gratuity for HMS Fortitude
