Richard these questions have all been answered in your earlier posts on the match box covers.  I’m puzzled why you’re asking them again.  The Crescent and Star was a long standing emblem used by the Ottoman Empire for all kinds of medals, insignia and inscriptions.  It’s also connected with the religion of Islam and can be seen in the iconography of a number of other Islamic Nations.
