I have found a photo on Ancestry purporting to be a soldier I am researching. I am not entirely convinced that it is him. Can any uniform experts glean anything from the clip shown below - I don't want to post the whole image because it is not mine, but there is nothing significant missing. No cap badge, sleeve markings etc.

Can anyone positively id the shoulder title (I can't), and is it Territorial? And what is the mysterious mark above the second button, it surely cannot be a medal ribbon? just a blemish on the image perhaps?

I'd say a blemish on the front.

Cheshire regiment shoulder title ?

Thanks for that Craig, he is supposed to be Cheshire Reg't so that helps. I thought that I could read the first and last letters but there looked to be a gap in the middle.

It does look like Cheshire to me too.

I think it's the angle with the E and the S coupled with image quality (and possible damage to the picture).
