Perth Digger Posted 24 December , 2021 Posted 24 December , 2021 I am looking for personal information on the above. He was an aerial gunner in a Bristol F2b piloted by 2/Lt JF Whiteman when it was shot down in flames SE of Havrincourt on 4 September 1917. He is commemorated on the Arras Flying Services Memorial. From RAF Airmen Records it appears that he went to France on 26 May 1916, having (I guess from his number, 11730) enlisted in late October 1915. ICRC has him as G.J. Heedy. I have failed to find any personal information on him and would be grateful for any help. Thanks Mike

George Rayner Posted 24 December , 2021 Posted 24 December , 2021 Presuming that you have him on the 1911 Census George
josquin Posted 27 December , 2021 Posted 27 December , 2021 (edited) Both 1901 and 1911 Census returns give Manchester as 2/AM John Heedy's birthplace, and his age at time of census as 5 and 15. The BMD birth index states that his birth was registered during the 2nd Quarter of 1896, at Prestwich. His birth probably occurred during the first several months of 1896. As you already know, in 1911 he was employed as an office boy for electrical engineers, at Failsworth, Lancashire. The 1901 Census confirms his residence as Manchester and lists Thomas and Annie Heedy as his parents. Josquin Edited 27 December , 2021 by josquin
