amadden1 Posted 15 December , 2021 Share Posted 15 December , 2021 Hello, I hope someone can offer advice regarding an unusual KD Frock I recently obtained. It strongly resembles the standard other ranks KD frock (non-India pattern) used during the Great War, with stand and fall collar, and 'fishtail' seams on the back. It differs, however, with the obvious inclusion of the lower pockets, single dart seam below each collar, and lacks holes for the belt hooks. The 'feel' of the tunic is very similar to a great War example I possess (photos included for comparison). Moreover, the lower pockets appear contemporaneous - I can see no variation in thread type or stitching. I remember a fantastic discussion on this forum several years ago that offered a wealth of information on KD frocks and their evolution in the early twentieth century - I can seem to find it now. Any suggestions would be appreciated, Andrew

You should also bear in mind that outside every barracks in India (within cantonment bounds) was a regimental bazaar that included ‘durzis’ (native tailors), who could both, add pockets to issue frocks, or make a bespoke jacket from scratch for very little cost. These modified jackets were common and defy meaningful categorisation. Edited 15 December , 2021 by FROGSMILE
