janek Posted 11 December , 2021 Share Posted 11 December , 2021 Please can anyone tell me what this was? It is mentioned in the War Diary of the 15th Battalion Royal Warwicks for 9/5/16 when they were in Arras. The diary says "enemy persistently shelled OBSERVATORY REDOUBT preventing working party from repairing damages" (the words are written in capitals in the Diary). I am particularly interested in this entry as it was the day my grandfather was injured

janek Posted 11 December , 2021 Author Share Posted 11 December , 2021 thankyou. Is it actually the name of a trench or the area the trenches were in? The diary entry starts with "In trenches K1 front line"
jonbem Posted 11 December , 2021 Share Posted 11 December , 2021 Redoubt - Wikipedia redoubt (historically redout)[1][2] is a fort or fort system usually consisting of an enclosed defensive emplacement outside a larger fort, usually relying on earthworks, although some are constructed of stone or brick
