stevie1944 Posted 10 December , 2021 Share Posted 10 December , 2021 (edited) Hello! I understand on 1/7/16 several British units were able to capture the Heidenkopf, but the failure of advancement on the flanks and general confusion due to excessive casualties forced the units to withdraw from the Heidenkopf on the morning of July 2. From this forum I've read several accounts of the German defenders noting there were about 150 German dead in the Heidenkopf, and three to four times that amount of British dead. Would the British have hastily buried the dead in the Heidenkopf on July 1/2, or did the German defenders bury both the German and British dead once they reoccupied the position? Are their any first hand accounts available mentioning this or the British dead in the area? Edited 10 December , 2021 by stevie1944
