Hello, I am Huguette Vanden Weghe from Belgium living partly in the UK. On Sunday I had a talk with a friend, who's grandfather was killed in the first war. I was asked to have some information about him, because we are living near Ypres and Passchendaele in the Flanders. He is buried at Tyne cot and we will go there to find his grave. But is it possible to have some more information about him via this side?? I have all his information: his name is Robson Henri William He was first taking photo's out of plains.

After.R.F.C.he was Private 41597(RFC 41250) with A Company 8th Battalion South Staffordshire Regiment 17th Division killed in action at Ypres 12th October 1917.No known grave but commemorated on Tyne Cot Memorial  Belgium -

<i would like to help him and find more info about his grandfather; Maybe someone can help me?? TCould not post anything otherwhere, so that is why I posted here (and sorry for my poor English!!)thank you very much, Huguette

Hi Huguette

Welcome to the forum. The link below is a request to the International Committee of the Red Cross from Williams wife requesting information on William. Unfortunately there was nothing to report. It does however narrow down his unit to the 3rd Platoon of A Company.

You will also find the war diary here. Free to download if you register

Thank you very much Michelle. Being Flemish I don't understand sometimes not the most of things ! But I was just looking up information for an elderly man about his grandfather, and want to give all the information to him for his Christmas. Being from Flanders Fields, he thought I could help. But we will go to Tyne Cot and take some pictures for him. So thank you for helping me out! KInd regards, Huguette

He was reported as 'missing 12.10.17' 'age 39'

The image below is from the International Red Cross and you can access it via the link shown below

SORRY -- just re-read the thread from the top and realised that Derek had already posted this link. (I found the IRC entry card an hour or so ago but then my PC crashed!

Hi Huguette

Not a problem. I take it that you have his medal index card, effect's statement and medal roll? Soldiers Died in the Great War has him listed as born Brighton, residence Worthing. He is commemorated on the War Memorials of Worthing and in the Church of St Andrew, West Tarring.

I wondered what the source for this was. An aerial photographer was a skilled job, requiring lots of training, it would seem a bit of a shame to waste those skills and that training time, with a transfer to a line infantry regiment.

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission lists 115 men of the 8th Stafford's as having a date of death on the 12/10/17,  like William, the majority have their sacrifice commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial.

Kind Regards

Derek
