BarbaraG Posted 1 December , 2021 Share Posted 1 December , 2021 Whilst researching came across Pension Record Card - which notes Jack Solden not a casualty. Any help in finding service details or MIC much appreciated. (He ‘appears’ later in USA and his mother Leah visits!)
ss002d6252 Posted 1 December , 2021 Share Posted 1 December , 2021 The mother wouldn't be entitled to a pension where the soldier had survived - it looks like she lodged a claim, however, and the card was annotated to confirm he was 'living'. ss002d6252 Posted 1 December , 2021 Share Posted 1 December , 2021 The British Jewry Book of Honour on Find My Past also has a further entry which states he was Manchester Regiment. Craig
Admin DavidOwen Posted 1 December , 2021 Admin Share Posted 1 December , 2021 He was struck off strength of C Company Manchester Regt Depot on 24/2/1919 so perhaps called up too late to serve overseas and presumably became an officer cadet on that date? https://search.findmypast.co.uk/record?id=GBM%2FWO363-4%2F007405703%2F00218&parentid=GBM%2FWO363-4%2FSUPP%2F535063
corisande Posted 1 December , 2021 Share Posted 1 December , 2021 I think that this is probably him. The age is wrong, but that may be down to the reporting. There were not many Jack or Jacob Soldens around I assume as well that you are talking about the brother of Solomon Solden who was in this thread recently

I think that this refers to another Jack Solden The dob is the same for both the record you quote and for his naturalisation applicaton - born 23 May 1901 on both The naturalisation application says he was born in Russia and arrived in USA in 1916 [edit] I confess to being lost now as I have found his school record in MAnchester which gives that the Manchester man was born 23 May 1901 - click for school record [/edit] [edit] and also Full name as given Jack Solden. Obituary text Jack was born on May 23, 1901 and passed away on Sunday, January 1, 1989.Jack was a resident of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.[/edit] Edited 1 December , 2021 by corisande
BarbaraG Posted 1 December , 2021 Author Share Posted 1 December , 2021 (edited) Thanks everyone! This has helped me as I was confused about the Pension Application. Yes Corisande, linked as above, interesting news item. There is a link on Ancestry to ‘Alien Case Files’ which I am unable to access. A very interesting family - May be unfair to say but I think they might have been economical with the truth or confused.
