FROGSMILE Posted 29 November , 2021 Share Posted 29 November , 2021 Just to be clear Chaplains did not enlist, they received Kings commissions in their (chaplaincy) department of the Army.

There were some excellent Irish chaplains that I’ve read about in the past and it’s an interesting subject. It’s been mentioned by some that those of the RC denomination were often especially brave because of their devoted determination to give absolution to men during their last moments in the firing line. To go so far forward unarmed and in horrendous circumstances for the sake of faith bespeaks a special kind of courage I think. Visits to TNA have been limited during the pandemic. Any correspondence should be by the personal message system. You may also wish to consider the services of GWF founder and owner of the LLT web site https://www.fourteeneighteen.co.uk There is a Phd study on Irish Chaplains which you may find to be of interest https://etheses.bham.ac.uk/id/eprint/3413/1/Brennan12MPhil.pdf

ilkley remembers Posted 1 December , 2021 Share Posted 1 December , 2021 (edited) Then one of 5 brothers the sons of Edward Fitzhardinge Campbell (Senior) who all served in the war. Apart from Edward (Junior) they served...2 in the army, 1 in the navy and one in the Church Army. Certainly a protestant family with connections to the Orange Order. Try the Museum of Army Chaplains who hold some records or the relevant archive of which ever denomination that he was a member of. There is some information including a photo in Irish Newspapers searched on the British Newspaper Archive Edited 1 December , 2021 by ilkley remembers
