Hello bought this a month ago,yet despite looking through numerous books and the net can't find out anything about it have stumped numerous people asking about what it is

Never seen one before it looks homemade and reminds me of a Kelly kettle, but there’s no way to heat it up with soldered seams and the ‘broad arrow’ plaque just appears badly added.

IMO the two holes on the shoulder once had a small loop for the other end of the chain (otherwise it leaks...)

Does it fit into any of the standard webbing/straps easier than the official issue water bottle?

I also think it is "home-made".

Has the SRD Jar got a maker's name on it? I've never seen a SRD jar with that size lettering before.

Agree on the SRD lettering. Granted there were many manufacturers and inevitably variations occurred, I just haven't seen this style before.

Have tried unsuccessfully to find out what the numbers and letters are on label,to give me some idea what possibly is it used for,one person asked said could be an early urin bottle used by RFC or artillery spotters in balloon ?
