Remembered Today:

Frank Potter, 50395 RGA, 3641, Sergeant, 7 Royal Irish Fusiliers. Why the change of arm of service?

Recommended Posts

Sergeant Frank Potter, 3641, 7 Royal Irish Fusiliers died of wounds at 46 Casualty Clearing Station on 29 April 1916. Going by his entry in the Registers of Soldiers' Effects he enlisted in Perth about November 1914 apparently in the RGA. He did not serve overseas with the RGA, indeed I suspect that he first went overseas in April 1916 with 16 Division.

Can anyone please suggest a reason for his move from the RGA to the RIrishF? It must have been quite early on if he was a sergeant in April 1916?
