6th Mounted Brigade?

Recommended Posts

Could anyone provide assistance with the wider war movements of the 6th Mounted Brigade?

Details below:-
Private James Kirkland Galloway, Service Number 47579, served with the Machine Gun Corps [Cavalry Division].  He was the son of Andrew and Agnes of 52 Commercial Street, Lerwick, Shetland Islands.

James had been born in Glasgow, but had been admitted to the Anderson Institute in Lerwick from the Central School, Lerwick, on 22nd August, 1910.

He enlisted in Glasgow on the 6th of March, 1916, joining the MGC from the Reserve, Glasgow Yeomanry.

His medical records who him to have been hospitalized on a number of occasions.  He appears to have been in Egypt for most of his active service. By August 1917, James served with the 17th Machine Gun Squadron which formed part of the 6th Mounted Brigade. The 6th Mounted Brigade was transferred complete from the Imperial Mounted Division on 27 June 1917, joining the new division at el Maraqeb.

James was awarded the British War Medal and Victory Medal. Medal Card enclosed...

I'm a bit unsure about his service.

WFA/Fold3 pension record cards show he was Born: 1898. Discharged: 24.2.19  Disability: Albuminuria - from various annotations it looks like the claim may have begun in 1926 [annotations seem to include up to 1941]
