Dai Bach y Sowldiwr Posted 13 October , 2021 Share Posted 13 October , 2021 Very impressive. He must have been one of the youngest recipients of a 14 Star & Clasp.

The youngest I have seen with Star and Clasp is an RMLI Bugler born on 7 June 1900. What was Thomas' d.o.b.? RNCVR Posted 13 October , 2021 Share Posted 13 October , 2021 Very nice group Dave! I would like to view the naming on his 1914 star if that might be possible.
Knotty Posted 13 October , 2021 Share Posted 13 October , 2021 Found the MIC, looks like he started as a trumpeter, fair play I will take back my scepticism, he must have been around 14 ½ when he landed in France
dave1963 Posted 13 October , 2021 Author Share Posted 13 October , 2021 Apparently there was a chap two weeks younger, so not quite the youngest. His DOB was 3/2/1900

RNCVR Posted 13 October , 2021 Share Posted 13 October , 2021 Dave, Might it be possible to tell us something about Thomas Godbold's career pls? With that rack of medals he must have 'gotten around' a fair bit. Thanks, Bryan

I am getting some information from the RAA Facebook page which is helpful. I know he was in India between the wars, demobbed in '37 and then re-joined in '38, whereupon he was in Battery B RHA as a Staff Sergeant in a training capacity and went across North Africa with the First Army. Here is a pic on his wedding day.
clk Posted 14 October , 2021 Share Posted 14 October , 2021 Hi Dave, I guess that you may well have seen this already. Images sourced from Findmypast It seems that the MoD holds (or at least held) what's left of his service file - I understand that are currently in the process of being transferred to the National Archives. There is a help desk phone number here. Despite the general advice (here), I understand that given his DoB, they wouldn't need a copy death certificate with any application.
