stripeyman Posted 10 October , 2021 Share Posted 10 October , 2021 I was just trawling ebay and came across this pile of wreckage in the possession of the Germans, probably 1916. Any ideas what it could be ?
Buffnut453 Posted 10 October , 2021 Share Posted 10 October , 2021 There are at least 2 if not 3 different airframes in that photo. The tail in the background with the striped rudder looks like a Spad (possibly VII or XIII) to my eyes. Not sure about the forward fuselage on the left. I'll need to do some more googling. sadbrewer Posted 10 October , 2021 Share Posted 10 October , 2021 The Front end and tailfin could be a Martinsyde Elephant.
quemerford Posted 10 October , 2021 Share Posted 10 October , 2021 Yes tailfin definitely an Elephant.

Interested Posted 15 October , 2021 Share Posted 15 October , 2021 Aren't there four engines? One "up front", one in the middle and two stacked together at the right hand end?
davidbohl Posted 15 October , 2021 Share Posted 15 October , 2021 It was plonked on French/Belgian soil, the notice in the window says "defense d'entrer"
