AOK4 Posted 30 September , 2021 Share Posted 30 September , 2021 That's a Gefreiter- or Sergeantenknopf, depending on the size (a rank button on the collar). Normal uniform buttons were the same as the Prussian ones (king's crown). Jan

AOK4 Posted 30 September , 2021 Share Posted 30 September , 2021 I strongly recommend "Die feldgraue Uniformierung des deutschen Heeres 1907-1918" for anyone interested in German uniforms from WWI. A Gefreiterknopf is app. 24 mm, a Sergeantenknopf app. 30 mm.
GreyC Posted 30 September , 2021 Share Posted 30 September , 2021 For those really into German buttons this is the go-to book: Lüdenscheider Knopfbuch / Im Frieden wie im Krieg: Militärische Uniformknöpfe in Preussen-Deutschland seit Beginn des 18. Jahrhunderts (Schriften zu den Beständen des Stadtmuseums Lüdenscheid) 2005. Sadly out of print and quite expensive now, it is a standard source for specialists, though.
