Quite right, F. In my time, mid 50s, once trained the bedblock was no longer required. Do you think it was a daily requirement for ORs (maybe not NCOs) throughout UK service in WW1? I never actually saw a sleeping bag till years later.

I think it was peacetime routine for the ranks below full corporal Phil, but usually just on the home establishment, not in overseas stations, where the routine was often different (e.g. mosquito netting).  Full corporals generally had certain privileges as you know, and often some privacy, so I don’t think bed blocks applied to them.

It was a ****** getting all the lines straight on the sheets and blankets,  and being able to bounce a coin on the counter pain.
