It went in hard and vertical by the look of it.    lts a 1916 picture l reckon.

That engine plate bothers me.l can't place it, but it will be the key to solving the puzzle.

I'm not an engine expert, but is it a 9 cylinder Le Rhone?

I think there are inverted vee wing struts from the engine cowling, still connected to part of the top wing, to the left of the photo.

If so, this could be a Nieuport 12

There's an all-flying tailplane at the right of the photo - I'd go for a Morane Biplane
