WhiteStarLine Posted 23 August , 2021 Share Posted 23 August , 2021 1 hour ago, Augustin said: where is Chateau Segard If you use the search engine in tmapper you can see the chateau and overlay 3 trench maps from National Library of Scotland. However, this one is 25 km from Steenvoorde, so not really all that close.

Who wrote that? From where does the extract come? Anyone can write anything. Sources, sources, sources are all-important. Perhaps someone misread the "Steenvoorde" part in the original? Augustin Posted 23 August , 2021 Author Share Posted 23 August , 2021 (edited) the sources of this excerpt are the Australian archives "Australian War Memorial" it is written "After having participated in the operations around the area of Polygon Wood, Pte Jeffrey left the line to settle at Chateau Segard near Steenvoorde on the 30th September 1917 when a German plane flew over the camp and dropped its bombs. Pte Jeffrey was one of three men killed, aged 22 " I am thinking of a localization error which would not be voluntary Augustin Edited 23 August , 2021 by Augustin
