Guest Posted 7 August , 2021 Posted 7 August , 2021 researching the Russian army, can anyone tell me what constituted a 'Colour' infantry squad?
FROGSMILE Posted 7 August , 2021 Posted 7 August , 2021 Dave your query is really rather cryptic. You need to provide more information including a context so that a fuller picture of the information you have can be understood. My first thoughts are that you might have misread “colour”, but without more contextual information it’s not possible to know.

I agree - very hard to understand the question without context. Thought there also were "Black" and "Green" Russians involved in early C20th revolutionary times. ??? :-) M

Hello dave1958, I will try to comment and hope this helps. I suppose the topic starter asked about Colour infantry units in White Russian army 1918-1920... "Colored" military units - a widespread unofficial name of white nominal regiments, brigades and divisions of the 1st Infantry Division of the Whire Volunteer Army and the 1st Army Corps of the Volunteer Army during the Civil War in Russia, which was later strengthened in historiography and popular literature due to the characteristic parts of certain colors of caps, shoulder straps, sleeve insignia and chevrons (red, black, crimson, blue). There were Kornilov's, Markov's, Drozdovskiy's and Alekseev's divisions. The officers (and most of ORs and NCOs) in those units wore uniform with specific color distinctions. Divisions were named in memory of White Russian generals killed in action or died. Always better to see then explain in many words... Of course there were a lot of diversity , but general principles were: Kornilov's division wore distinctive red and black caps and red-black shoulder boards. Markov's division wore distinctive white and black caps and white-black shoulder boards. Drozdovskiy's division wore distinctive crimson and white caps and white-crimson shoulder boards. And Alexeev's division wore distinctive light blue and white caps and white-light blue shoulder boards. Edited 21 September , 2021 by Mikhail
