my friend wants to know

this WW1 lark is catching,my friend  has recently found out a relation was in ww1,we found his mic,,he wants to know why his service number changed,any wise GWF please  tell me :thumbsup:

His regimental number changed each time he was transferred to a different regiment or corps.  His history is a little clearer on the medal roll.  It seems he transferred to a Railway Company RE for a spell and that is where he collected the third number on the MIC.  Perhaps he had some railway experience before enlisting.

The RSE shows that he died of wounds in France 20/10/1918 42527 2 Bn Suffolk Regt. Father named as Frederick.

At WFA/Fold3 - Two pension index cards for TOMS, George 42527, 2nd Suffolks

Mother, Mrs Elizabeth Toms, 97 Park Street, St Albans put in for a Dependant's Pension [Under Article 21 (1c) of the Royal Warrant] - got a very typical 5/- pw from 6-11-18

For context tell you’re friend that moving units was very common.  Ive yet to find a family member (about 10 researched) that had one service number.  My record is 5!
