ypasg Posted 30 July , 2021 Share Posted 30 July , 2021 Hello, I'm hoping that someone will be able to tell me a little about the man in this photograph, which was taken by a photographer in Walmer, Kent sometime after 1875. Is the subject a Royal Marine? Approximately what date was this photograph taken? What else can you deduce from the uniform please? Many thanks for your help. ypasg Posted 30 July , 2021 Author Share Posted 30 July , 2021 Thank you. I really have no idea. The photographer who took this image died in the 1930s so it could have been taken during WWI.
horatio2 Posted 30 July , 2021 Share Posted 30 July , 2021 (edited) Probably a private RMLI. The field service cap shown worn was discontinued and replaced by the Broderick cap in 1903, This places the image well before WW1. I think the helmet plate was used by the RMLI other ranks 1878 - 1902. Edited 30 July , 2021 by horatio2
