sterry Posted 28 July , 2021 Posted 28 July , 2021 Hello do you have any information on Ernest Charles Sterry Royal horse artillary ww1 number 391716 from Lambeth England thanks
Admin RussT Posted 28 July , 2021 Admin Posted 28 July , 2021 There is a man with that name in the RHA with the number 195175 From where did you get the number 391716? Regards Russ
Admin RussT Posted 28 July , 2021 Admin Posted 28 July , 2021 And there are records for the 195175 Sterry which have a Lambeth address Russ
IPT Posted 28 July , 2021 Posted 28 July , 2021 195175 lived at 90 Milkwood Rd, Herne Hill. He was a baker. He had married Alice Florence Sawyer in Lambeth in 1914, and a son, William George Ernest, was born in Lambeth in 1916. He attested 10/12/1915 and was sent to the reserve. He was mobilized 1/2/1917, Royal Horse Artillery, and went abroad 27/4/1917 where he was attached to L Battery. I think Russ almost certainly has the right man. I can't see where the 391716 number comes from.
Admin RussT Posted 28 July , 2021 Admin Posted 28 July , 2021 The RFA/RHA number series didn't run to such a high value, and it's not a RFA/RHA TF 6-digit re-number. So my prediction is that the OP has provided an incorrect number.
sterry Posted 28 July , 2021 Author Posted 28 July , 2021 That’s correct son William George Ernest Sterry. Did he serve?
Mark1959 Posted 28 July , 2021 Posted 28 July , 2021 (edited) WGE Sterry was born 1916. So did not serve in WW1. There is a WGE Sterry that was an RAF officer in WW2. Poss same man but outside of purpose of this forum. Edited 28 July , 2021 by Mark1959
