Remembered Today:

14th (Light) Division - Concert Party

I'm currently shifting through the 41st Brigade war diary for October 1918 and there is a reference:-

25 October

Training with games by units. Brigade HQ played 33rd London at football. Brigade HQ winning 5-2. Divisional Concert Party arrived and gave a good concert in the evening. Many civilians were present.

I cannot find any reference to the 14th's concert party name.

Can anyone help?

Ive seen a fair few references in war diaries to concert parties turn up to entertain the troops when off the line.

The MO seems the same when resting reequip, military training, new draft of replacements, sport, church parades, concert party, perhaps a speech by a brigadier then back to towards the line for another tough few weeks.

Never seen any details of who ran the concert parties if that’s your question?

I'd like to know for sure myself.

They were probably The Starlights (which would make sense, and an excellent name too) or they might be The Problems.

If I'd been a member of 14th's troupe, my choice would have been the former. As a researcher, I have references for both.

By the way, 41st Brigade had its own concert party, the Fusee Springs; and a number of other units within 14th Division had their own troupes too.
