Remembered Today:

Does anyone know what colors the American uniforms in this would be?

Hi folks,

The photos below are family photos of my grandfather. I would like to colorize them. Not sure what colors the uniforms are.

Thanks

The uniform is mainly “drab” (the then British term for a brownish shade of khaki) with bronzed buttons and collar insignia.  Early garrison caps were made by military outfitters, many of them London tailors used by American officers on their way to the continent.

I don’t know what technical colour the US Ambulance would have been painted, but it too seems likely to have been a shade of drab.  The images below are of a smaller field ambulance but the colours seem likely to have been the same.
