o j kirby Posted 21 July , 2021 Share Posted 21 July , 2021 Today, I am remembering S/25179 Pte. John Fraser of the 6th Seaforth Highlanders. He died of wounds on 21st July 1918. He is buried at St. Imoges Churchyard, 16 km south of Rheims in France. His father was a gamekeeper. John appears as Ian Fraser on the Strontian war memorial in the West Highlands, close to where I grew up. ( Ian, or often spelt as Iain, is the Gaelic for John. He appears as John on the Strontian Roll of Honour. ) At the time that Ian was serving with the Seaforths, the family had moved to Inversanda, half way between Strontian and Ardgour. Ian Fraser was just 18 when he died.
