Remembered Today:

Can anyone tell me what branch of the French military this WWI uniform belongs to?

FROGSMILE,

Thank you for your kind words. As I said before, this is the first colourisation that I have done of a French soldier so I was a little concerned about getting the colours right. It's always nice when someone with the required knowledge come along and points one in the right direction.

Again - thank you.

Regards,

The fiche matricule shows that his brother Roger performed his national service in peacetime, and was in a tank regiment.

Would the dress regulations be that of the artillery, given their heritage as <<artillerie spéciale>>?

Thanks

Yes it was a subdivision of the artillery and therefore followed the same uniform regulations however were issued certain items unique to them.

Here's another good website which covers this topic.

Hello Guêpe, thank you for taking the time to not only answer the question, but to have also provided a link to an article about the uniform of the tankistes, which also has some very interesting content on how the look of the poilu changed as the years progressed.

Thanks
Keith
