OLD ROBIN HOOD Posted 15 July , 2021 Posted 15 July , 2021 (edited) Greetings from the cave. This one is a real Sherwood Forest long shot. I am researching 17245 Pte Percy George Bradley 10th Notts and Derby Regt. later 4961850 Sgt P G Bradly, Foresters. In WW1 he received the 1914-15 Star, War and Victory medals, rank of Private. He also received G V R Long Service and Good Conduct medal, Regular Army Clasp, rank of Sergeant. Obviously old Percy must have stayed in after WW1. My problem is that other than his MIC and Medal Rolls I can find absolutely no information on him whatever which is rather a shame for someone who put in so much service. So, if anyone out there can assist is any way with any information I will be most grateful. Old Robin Hood. Edited 15 July , 2021 by OLD ROBIN HOOD error
MaxD Posted 15 July , 2021 Posted 15 July , 2021 (edited) As he stayed on (he has a post 1920 7 digit number) his record will be still at Glasgow. In fact it is, his name and number appear on the listings of dob before 1901 whose records are at the APC. His records can be applied for Get a copy of military service records - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) but see recent threads here about records at Glasgow and timings. MaxD Edited 15 July , 2021 by MaxD
Swinesheadvillage Posted 15 July , 2021 Posted 15 July , 2021 Hi Looking at his medal rolls, his service number has been changed to read 17245 which is the number on the MIC. Putting that service number in comes up with an RC Bradley, C Coy, 10th Notts and Derby wounded 14th Dec 1915, being admitted to the 51st Field ambulance with shrapnel wounds to his shoulder and leg. (Courtesy of FMP):- https://search.findmypast.co.uk/record?id=S2%2FGBM%2FMH106%2FMH106-69%2F0008&parentid=GBM%2FMH106%2F335871 I know the initials are wrong but I assume that writing these up at the end of a long day a mistake has been made. For example the man above AG Bagnall, is Andrew James. Difficult to believe there would be two Bradleys, in the same Battalion with the same number. You wanted a long shot and I know this may be one! Kind Regards Derek
OLD ROBIN HOOD Posted 15 July , 2021 Author Posted 15 July , 2021 Greetings from the cave. Max D and Derek. Very many thanks for the information. You will see that I have amended Pte Bradley's serial number. It is in fact 17245 as Derek pointed out. My mistake., at my age easy to make. I am very grateful to both of you. Old Robin Hood.

MaxD Posted 16 July , 2021 Posted 16 July , 2021 Poor chap suffered from people getting his number and initials wrong almost every time - F G in the casualty list! MaxD

That might not be the only thing that is wrong. The MoD indices shows: A quick canter around BMD records for 1893 +/- a year didn't really get me anywhere, but in the 1939 register (living at 26 Masefield Avenue, Derby) there is this possibility: Image sourced from Findmypast So...right birth day and month, but different birth year. If he were to be the man, then the following might appear to flow: Image sourced from Free BMD 1901 Census Image sourced from Ancestry 1911 Census Image sourced from Ancestry Marriage Image sourced from Findmypast Death Image sourced from Free BMD Image sourced from Ancestry Regards Chris
OLD ROBIN HOOD Posted 17 July , 2021 Author Posted 17 July , 2021 Greetings from the cave. Many thanks for the additional info from sadbrewer and Chris. If what you found does turn out to be "our" Percy that will be great. However no matter what I still have more information now than I did when I submitted the post, so again my thanks to you all. OLD ROBIN HOOD.
