Metal detecting finds - Lovat Scouts & Seaforth Highlanders buttons, confirm WW1?

Hello friends

First interesting metal detecting finds of the season - can you confirm this LS button, and Seaforth Highlanders button, are both WW1?

East Sutherland Highland croft - Grandfather was in LS and had agricultural leave but surely not wearing uniform working in the field?

Have found these and a WW1 merchant navy button so far (which you kindly helped me with last year), but not sure how these end up in the middle of fields. Territorial maybe used the fields?

(A couple of cap badges from non-local regiments found last year too, I think we decided probably souvenir belt as a possibility - but again, no conclusion as to how they are here, no military camps or history of soldiers working on the croft from WW1.)

Thank you!

Both buttons fit for the period yes.  The Lovat Scouts button dates to when the unit was still a part of the Imperial Yeomanry and so pre-1908 but it would probably still have been in use during WW1 as the order was to waste out supplies of old patterns.  It seems likely that there was a summer encampment at the location if you found a concentration of items there.

Thanks - this is terrific detail as always - I wondered about the 'Y' . Yes there must have been something, it's just unusual for me to draw a blank from local knowledge - will keep asking and keep digging!

The other button is that of the Sutherland Rifle Volunteers [pre1908] and was also used by the 5th Territorial Battalion Seaforth's during WW1 and probably into WW2 as this battalion wore their own distinctive badge. Nice finds.

Thanks - this does fit in with Grandfather-n-law and various relatives being in the Rifle Volunteers here, so very interesting again.

Was this button exclusive to the Sutherland Highland Rifle Volunteers pre WW1; before it became part of the uniform for all under the Seaforths?
