AndrewSid Posted 4 July , 2021 Share Posted 4 July , 2021 (edited) After some advice on good books on the North Africa to Palestine campaign of WW1. I’m trying to follow a great Uncle ( Thomas A Siddall 4030/110570) who was most likely in A Sqn of the Duke of Lancasters Yeomanry initially in Egypt from Oct 1915 til his death in Oct 1918. Any hints on good reads most welcome. Thanks Edited 4 July , 2021 by AndrewSid
assafx Posted 7 July , 2021 Share Posted 7 July , 2021 (edited) A squadron was under the 53rd division until august 1917. they have a divisional history book : Ward Dudley, Hustory of the 53 (welsh ) division 1914-1918 . In august 1917 the squadron moved to the XXI core. One of the divisions, the 52nd division, have one of the best history books about the palestine campaign. Thompson R.R The fifty-second (Lowland Division 1914-1918. you have decent general books about the campaign by John D. Grainger: The battle for palestine 1917 and the battle for syria 1918-1920. MaureenE Posted 7 July , 2021 Share Posted 7 July , 2021 There are many online books linked from the FIBIS Fibiwiki page Egypt, Palestine, Syria (First World War) (section Historical books online) most of which are free. https://wiki.fibis.org/w/Egypt,_Palestine,_Syria_(First_World_War) The first two books mentioned by assafx are available in Naval & Military Press reprint editions, which in turn are available on the Ancestry owned pay website fold3. They are linked from the Fibiwiki page. Maureen

JulianB Posted 6 August , 2021 Share Posted 6 August , 2021 Like you, I am researching my great-grandfather who was also in the 53rd Div (RA) in Egypt and Palestine – 1915-19. Although I am lucky to have his diary as does his Service File (in TNA), I found these books very useful… Bruce, A 2002 The Last Crusade. John Murray, London.
