Armlet issued on discharge

On a soldier's service file I have found a letter enquiring as to whether he has been issued his 'armlet' following his discharge for medical reasons (para 392 iii cc).

It appears that the armlet was khaki coloured, and numbered.

The letter was dated 15 September 1916.

I am thinking that this was a precursor to the Silver War Badge, but would be grateful for further information on the 'armlet'.

This was one on the ways the armlet for the "Derby Scheme" was eventually utilized, but ultimately replaced by the SWB - have a look at:
