Anthony Ewen Posted 29 May , 2021 Share Posted 29 May , 2021 Can anyone explain the term 'gazetted out'? I found this at TNA in the service record for a chaplain in 1917.
alf mcm Posted 29 May , 2021 Share Posted 29 May , 2021 Anthony, It could mean that he was dicharged from the army due to ill health. This link describes another case;- https://api.parliament.uk/historic-hansard/commons/1917/mar/07/gazetted-out Regards, Alf McM
Anthony Ewen Posted 29 May , 2021 Author Share Posted 29 May , 2021 Many thanks for this Alf - much appreciated. Seems to confirm other notes in the record about being sent back to England from France for hospital treatment. But I had not seen or heard the phrase before. alf mcm Posted 29 May , 2021 Share Posted 29 May , 2021 Tony, You should be able to find his entry in the London Gazette for when he was 'gazetted out'. Regards, Alf McM
