I think the letters were punched or otherwise impressed into the rim of the medal. You are absolutely right about 'embossing' = my error in terminology :-( - I had intended, and agree with you about being sort, of 'punched' into the rim i.e. impressed. JonnyH Posted 23 September , 2021 Share Posted 23 September , 2021 Does anyone know if this chaps original number, 1653, would have been issued by the 3rd Northumbrian Field Ambulance when he joined or did RAMC TF issue numbers centrally? My own great grand father was renumbered in 1917 as per all RAMC TF, and I am trying to establish if his original number would have been issued by RAMC TF or the individual units.
