oscarquebec Posted 11 May , 2021 Share Posted 11 May , 2021 I’ve been reading accounts of the first day of the Somme and was particularly interested in a statement by Maj C. J. Low 1st London Scottish who describes the heroic action of his CSM Matt Hamilton aged 19 years KIA. Records suggest that the CSM in question was actually 510154 James Leckie Hamilton 1st / 14th London Scottish aged 20 years. Forgive my naivety but would James be close to being the youngest CSM? IPT Posted 11 May , 2021 Share Posted 11 May , 2021 Interesting. Harry Betts MC, DCM & Bar, aged 21, is often described as the youngest CSM - http://www.cambridgeshireregiment1914-18.co.uk/betts.html
