Margaret Roy Posted 9 May , 2021 Share Posted 9 May , 2021 Good afternoon- I’ve posted this photo before and queried it but now I think the soldier back left is perhaps Jonathan Duthie who was a signaller in the Gordon Highlanders . Could anyone please advise if his uniform would fit with that position? Thank you .
FROGSMILE Posted 9 May , 2021 Share Posted 9 May , 2021 (edited) Both men are commissioned officers so neither can be a signaller per se. It is however possible that he was the battalion’s Signals Officer who commanded its section of battalion signallers. Officers did not wear a signallers badge. Margaret Roy Posted 9 May , 2021 Author Share Posted 9 May , 2021 Hi Frogsmile - thank you for your swift reply - the soldier can’t be Jonathan Duthie then sadly as Jonathan tragically was wounded and had to have a leg amputated in 1918 and in the article in the paper states that he is Pte Duthie . So the mystery of the man back left remains 😢
