Is there anywhere specific that I should look?

Hi Dazza, hope you don't mind me answering this. The War Diary database on Ancestry for France, Belgium and Germany can be found at https://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/collections/60779/

That said, I agree with @FROGSMILE and tend to use the National Archive search engine just remembering to enter unit numbers as, for example, 50 not 50th. https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk

It was m’learned colleague, jay dubaya, that gave the good advice regarding the NA in this case.

Hopefully you’re now sorted with the diaries Darren, if not just let me know. Also seek out the 9th Division CRA diary for the period in question.

Hi Jay,

Thank you for all of your help and so far. I have looked through the diaries of the Divisional Ammunition Column and the 50th Bde who as stated ended up in the Cologne area. Apart from some very interesting reading I have found no other information regarding my relation. I’m assuming that I will never know who he was attached to or locations during the war years and will probably have to settle for him belonging to one of the above at the end of the war.
Am I correct in thinking that he could have been attached to numerous units throughout the war years?

I have not yet searched for the 53th Bde and I assume as per your earlier post that they cannot be found after 1916.
Once again, thank you for your help

Regards Darren
