chaz Posted 20 April , 2021 Share Posted 20 April , 2021 Ive asked on the BMF regarding my latest acqusition, a pair of medals to Pte Joe Wheeler who according to FWR says 28594 KSLI and 34805 South Lancs, both of their entries are dated 1914. His MIC says entitled to the pair only, backed up by FWR saying he would likely be entitled to same.. the information I have is he was in 6th KSLI 28594 and 2nd South Lancs 34805. Both regiments would have been in France during 1915. can anyone specialising in both regiments confirm roughly what date his numbers fit into? Im trying to see if he was a late entry or if older or due a star.
jay dubaya Posted 20 April , 2021 Share Posted 20 April , 2021 In the absence of the experts a little KSLI number crunching may suggest a late October 1917 allocated number

clk Posted 20 April , 2021 Share Posted 20 April , 2021 Hi chaz, I'd be tempted to go for a date of circa 13,7.1918 for his 28594 KSLI service number. 28549 Hope 28550 Jaques 28585 Vowles 28587 Wilcox 28607 Cooper Images sourced from Findmypast Regards Chris
chaz Posted 20 April , 2021 Author Share Posted 20 April , 2021 the annoying thing is that clicking on either KSLI or South Lancs it comes back with the KSLI page

chaz Posted 20 April , 2021 Author Share Posted 20 April , 2021 (edited) thanks Chris. dont know where FWR get the 1914 from unless its a default for the regiment not the soldier, yet another reason I didnt pay full price for a year with them on renewal, they werent happy I said they had a few problems, looks like its back to Ancestry again then. Ditto Russ, you just beat me to it Edited 20 April , 2021 by chaz
clk Posted 20 April , 2021 Share Posted 20 April , 2021 Hi chaz, It looks like his 34805 South Staffs service number may date from March 1919. For example: 34808 Westhead Image sourced from Findmypast Edit: From the war diary of 6/KSLI: Image sourced from the National Archives Regards Chris
