Royal Engineer 79th Coy, Miner?

In the pension Record below I have a Royal Engineer in the 79th Coy.

 

In the Date and cause of death we have a word that looks like "mining" to me but I was not aware of this Company carrying out such activities. Any ideas?

 

This was Battle of St Quentin, Known by various names, and basically the German Offensive.

73 Company was a Field Company part of 18 Division, and I think the word is “missing”
