Thanks for that. Strange that a cross check with SDGW or CWGC did not throw up anything. I wonder could he be recorded as a deserter. ( If he died on leave). 
 

A few weeks ago I was researching a man drowned in Calais docks. I noticed one of his medal rolls had originally described him as a deserter.

There are so many unknowns, and possibilities.

Nowhere is there  a single fact that can be corroborated.

Having said that, you'd have thought someone somewhere would have noticed him missing, whether he was a bona fide soldier or a civilian.
