Hello,

Train units and Train officers are not necessarily connected to any front line unit.

And anyway, he may have been from XXII Reservekorps (which was also a unit raised by the Guard). They left Flanders around June1915.

Jan

As a Guard-Train-Officer he didn´t have to be in a Korps, set-up by the guard. He may be a member of XXVI.Res.Korps, which had its staff in Roulers, or he belonged to XXII.RK and visited the XXVI.RK. We don´t know...

Fact is, the XXVI.RK was in Roulers. Here is a part of a map from April/May 1915:

And here is the structure of the XXVI.RK in 1915 (maybe he served with one of the units under "Munitionskolonnen und Trains):

But he didn´t have to serve in one of those military units, he also could have served with the staff of the "Generalgouvernement", which consisted of 200 officers and 1400 men.

Here is a photo of the Generalstab Belgien in Brussels. Maybe he is part of the crowd...

And last but not least...

So I read the letters of his name and compare the both "H" in the red squares. (above for "Hermann". So his first name will start with an "H" too.

And here is a colour painting of the uniform of the Garde-Train uniform. Officers had the same cuffs. (From the book: "Die feldgraue Uniformierung des deutschen Heeres 1907-1918" (Jürgen Kraus)

Andy,

Just saying that XXII Reservekorps was also in the Roulers area mid 1915 before being sent elsewhere. And Roeselare/Roulers was a larger town, hence it had more to offer an attracted some visitors from all over 4th Army.

I'd say it is most probable he belonged to either XXII or XXVI Reservekorps, but he may have belonged to any (most probably) Train unit of the 4th Army.

Jan

Hi Jan!

Yes, that´s right. Unfortunately Train and unfortunately Reserve-Officer. So I think, we won´t find out more. I´m still looking for a ranklist of the officers in the Generalgouvernement. I know it did exist, but I haven´t seen it anywhere.

But anyway, I still miss the red front-pipings... :D

Generalgouvernement is nowhere near Roeselare, you can forget about that.

Of course, yes, but I´m not sure if in that ranklist all officers in Belgium are listed.

As far as I understand only the officers from the GG, not those of the Armies and Etappen-Inspektionen.
