Keith_history_buff Posted 2 April , 2021 Share Posted 2 April , 2021 SDGW often records a very generic "London" for people who enlisted there. (Mill Hill and Stratford were administratively in Middlesex and Essex respectively, according to the General Register Office in 1911, but these locations have the suffix ", London" on SDGW. It would appear this man was in court in Clapham, and having the choice of being subsisted At Her Majesty's Pleasure or On Her Majesty's Service, he seems to have taken the latter... I think. I have heard stories of serve in the army or go to prison, and I think this may be one of those cases, but would be interested to hear what others say South Western Police Court in Clapham, opened 1892, demolished 1962https://visitclaphamjunction.com/about/the-junction-history Name: Robert Davis Birth Place: St. Luke's, London Death Date: 18 Jul 1916 Death Place: France and Flanders Enlistment Place: South Western Police Court [in September 1907] Rank: L Sergeant Regiment: South Wales Borderers Battalion: 1st Battalion Regimental Number: 9724 Type of Casualty: Killed in action Theatre of War: Western European Theatre Partial SDGW details reproduced under fair use terms, courtesy of Ancestry and HM Stationery Office CWGC entryhttps://www.cwgc.org/find-records/find-war-dead/casualty-details/556462/DAVIS/
