Pte #57980 James Martland King's Liverpool CWGC

SDGW has him born in Liverpool, residence Appley Bridge, Lancs

His Soldiers Effects and Pension fit his marriage record 1907

From Anc

His wife and children were in Liverpool 1911, James probably at sea.

Can't positively find him in earlier census records.

In chasing up this chaps unmarried life I have found the

Upholland Memorial has claimed him http://www.uphollandwarmemorial.co.uk/martlandjames.htm

Is this more likely to be John Martland ? CWGC

Many thanks

Dave

Great War Memorial Register: 19 Loos Memorial has 277518 John as the son of James & Jane of Strand Houses, Aughton, Ormskirk, Lancs. Aged 21.

Formerly #1903 of King's Liverpool Regt.

If that helps. Looks to me the Upholland site has the same details for 57980 James as CWGC.

Still wondering how a ship steward ended up in Appley Bridge, his wife gave birth to their last son Robert James in Liverpool, June Qtr 1916.

The BNA has him missing in the Wigan Observer

In the church magazine, a report to the effect that he had been classed as ‘missing’ gave his address as Walthew Green.

Walthew Green is between UpHolland and Appley Bridge.

Only 2 miles from Appley Bridge and less than 2 miles from Upholland

So It seems the address, his wifes name of Margaret Jane Martland  pension and register of effects tie in with the Upholland website

And he had 3 children, Eleanor, Charles, Robert

It all ties in and the Martland family have a family tree on Ancestry.co.uk with various documents in their gallery

His mother died 7th january 1939 in Upholland, at New Gate Farm

She was there far back as of 1911

Hence the Upholland area connection

The Wife and kids are living at 20 Plumer Street Wavertree in 1911

In 1914 in your post above with James Martland living at 27 Olton St, Wavertree

Those 2 addresses are less than 1/2 mile from each other
