Jacky Platteeuw

Apologies if this has been posted already but I have just seen on my Facebook page an announcement from The Last Post Association that Jacky has passed away.

For many years he was in charge of the Last Post ceremony at the Menin Gate and he was a kind and charming man who calmed the nerves of anyone laying a wreath.

He will be much missed.

RIP

Indeed he will. A charming man, completely unflappable and always courteous. May he rest in peace.

Sad news indeed. A real gentleman, who did much good work for the Last Post Association for many years.

A generous and moving tribute by the LPA Chairman is on their wesite.

Many years ago when he was one of the original 'De Diggers' he gave me a personal guided tour of the area then under excavation, including what became Yorkshire Trench.  Also included Cement House cemetery where any discovered remains were buried.  Had many a chat with Jacky under the Menin Gate over later years.  A decent fellow.

Sorry to hear it. I met Jacky on several occasions, a helpful and pleasant man.

Met Jackie on my first journey to the Western Front and a number of times since.  Very much a gentleman, kind and considerate, always had time for people.

He briefed me on the occasions that I proclaimed the exhortations at the Last Post ceremony. He will be very much missed.
