I have the War diaries for both battalions and will have a look in the morning.
I don’t have any record of Digby Appleby serving with the 1st Battalion though.

Dave - thank you. On 15 Dec 1917 Appleby is reported (Western Mail I think) to have been attached to a regular battalion of the Welsh Regiment. And he's listed as an attached Major in a 1918 a Army List - but officers of the 1st and 2nd Battalions are not separated. He was still in France on 28 October so the attachment was prob towards the end Nov/beginning Dec - plus travel time if indeed he went to Salonica.

I have tried to find him in the 1st Bn., War Diary but to no avail. The War Diary seems to note the arrival and departure of the officers, but no mention of Appleby.

I have a couple of photos of him, if of interest.

Well thanks for looking Dave. A bit of a mystery - I wonder if his attachment might have been to the depot? I'll keep looking. I have images thanks.
