Memorial Death Plaque identification

Was it common or not that unusual for Memorial Death plaque to be issued with only a middle initial and not the full name when that full middle name was known to military?

In this case plaque was obtained in Canada and he was Canadian Army later transferred to UK RAF. Plaque shows only middle initial

Almost all Canadian Army records show full middle name however some of RAF records do use only the middle initial. Soldier signed All his military records using only a middle initial. CWGC database search seem to indicate this is the same guy.

I know this is a vague question likely with no clear answer but any guidance appreciated. Thanks
